By default, new members can only join your Portal through an invitation you send. You can change this to let anyone sign up, or to let people request access for your approval. For a comparison of all the ways players can join, see Choosing Your Member Access Mode.
How to Enable Public Sign-Ups
- From the sidebar, click Settings
- Navigate to the Memberships section
- Toggle Allow public sign ups to on
- Click Save
With this enabled, anyone who visits your Portal URL ({slug}.mahjpass.com) can create an account.
How to Disable Public Sign-Ups
Follow the same steps above and toggle the setting off. When disabled:
- The sign-up page will display an "Invitation Required" message
- Only people with a valid invitation link can create an account
- Existing members are not affected
The Three Access Modes
From Settings > Memberships, you can choose how new players join your Portal:
- Open sign-up — Anyone with your Portal link can create an account right away.
- Request access — People can ask to join, and you approve or decline each request.
- Invite only — Only people you've sent an invitation to can create an account.
Which Should I Choose?
| Scenario | Recommendation |
|---|---|
| Private club with a fixed group | Keep sign-ups disabled, use invitations |
| Growing community, open to new players | Enable public sign-ups (open sign-up) |
| Want to screen new players before they join | Use request access |
| Running a public event | Temporarily enable sign-ups, then disable after |
💡 Tip: You can toggle this setting on and off as needed. For example, enable it when you're recruiting new players and disable it once your group is full.
