Auto-Assign uses Seating Rules to decide how to place players when you click Auto-Assign in a game's seating view. You configure these from Settings > Gameplay > Seating Rules.

How Rules Work

  • Each rule can be turned on or off independently.
  • Rules apply in priority order โ€” the rule at the top of the list is satisfied first, then the next, and so on.
  • Drag a rule up or down to change its priority. The list updates immediately.
  • Disable any rule you don't need; Auto-Assign simply skips it.

๐Ÿ’ก Reordering or disabling rules only affects future Auto-Assign runs โ€” it never changes seats you've already assigned.

The Rules

Buddy Requests

Honors seat buddy requests submitted by players (see Understanding Seat Buddy Requests).

  • Required โ€” a player and their requested buddy are only seated together, or left unseated if there's no room.
  • Best effort (default) โ€” the system tries to seat them together but will seat them apart if it can't.

Fill Tables

Controls whether Auto-Assign packs players into as few tables as possible, or spreads them across more tables.

  • Placed above Skill Balance (the default): tables fill up first before skill grouping is applied within them.
  • Placed below Skill Balance, or disabled: players spread across more tables for cleaner skill separation.

Skill Balance

Distributes players across tables based on their skill level.

  • Balanced (default) โ€” each table gets a mix of skill levels.
  • Grouped โ€” players of similar skill sit together.

Default Order

Out of the box, rules run in this order: Buddy Requests โ†’ Fill Tables โ†’ Skill Balance. Most instructors don't need to change it, but you can reorder or disable any rule to match how you run your games.

When Rules Conflict

Auto-Assign can't always satisfy every rule at once โ€” for example, a buddy request might not fit at a table that's already balanced by skill. Higher-priority rules win. Review the results after each Auto-Assign and adjust manually if needed (see How to Rearrange Seating).
